Adoption Process
Please Read Before Inquiring About Adoption
At Short Stack Ranch (SSR), we are committed to finding the perfect forever homes for our miniature horses and donkeys. Minis are herd animals and require companionship, so if you do not already have another mini, you will need to adopt two. Bonded pairs must be adopted together.

Requirements for Adoption
To ensure the best possible care for our minis, prospective adopters must meet the following criteria:
-
Equine Experience: Prior experience with horses—miniature or full-sized—is required.
-
Companion-Only Policy: SSR minis cannot be used for breeding or riding. They are also not placed as companions to large horses, as they are at risk of injury.
-
Lifetime Commitment: If, for any reason, you are unable to keep your mini in the future, they must be returned to SSR.
-
Proper Care & Environment:
-
Ability to provide love, attention, and lifelong care.
-
Understanding of miniature horse nutrition and dietary needs.
-
Financial stability to support the ongoing needs of your mini.
-
Safe, secure housing with adequate shelter and protection from predators.
-

We take great care in matching our minis with the right adopters to ensure a happy, fulfilling future for both the minis and their new families.

Our adoption fees vary based on the mini you choose, helping to cover essential costs such as veterinary care, feed, daily care, and transportation. This ensures each horse is healthy, well-cared for, and ready to thrive in their new home.

By adopting, you're not just welcoming a new equine companion—you’re also supporting our mission to give every horse a second chance at a loving home.
